Training Needs Analysis

Laying the Foundation for effective and tailored training
Every successful training programme starts with a clear understanding of what is truly needed. Navtrain’s Training Needs Analysis (TNA) ensures that each course or module directly supports the customer’s operational goals and the realities of their organisation.
Purpose
A TNA provides the foundation for an effective and tailored curriculum. It clarifies the current level of readiness, identifies existing training assets and highlights where improvements or new modules will have the most impact. The process also helps to align training with available resources, existing procedures and the customer’s long-term ambitions.
Approach
Our team of specialists conducts the analysis through on-site assessments, structured interviews and scenario discussions with both operational and training staff. Depending on the scope, this can take place fully at the customer’s location or in a hybrid setup with preparatory work in the Netherlands.
Outcome
The outcome is a concise, data-driven report that maps current capabilities and defines the way forward. It provides clear recommendations on programme design, duration and participant levels. This will ensure that every hour of training contributes directly to improved performance and operational readiness.

Readiness Training Programme

Structured in Phases. Driven by Purpose.
Readiness Training and Crew Work-Up
Ensure your vessel and crew are fully prepared for safe operations and mission deployment. Our Readiness Training program develops teams from basic safety awareness to full operational readiness through three progressive and integrated stages. Each phase is modular, realistic and fully adaptable to your vessel and mission profile.
Our approach
We combine simulation-based learning, at-sea coaching and structured evaluation in close cooperation with commanding officers. This reduces time at sea, accelerates crew proficiency and enhances overall mission reliability. Every Weekly Practice Programme (WPP) is tailored to customer requirements and operational standards.
Ready for Duty
The final stage is where all skills come together. Crews are tested in complex, ship-wide exercises that simulate real-world missions. Live or simulated weapon drills, multi-department coordination and the culminating “Weekly War” day ensure full readiness for operational deployment.
Ready for Exercise
A multiple week, intensive stage designed to prepare the crew for operational drills and mission rehearsals. Training blends classroom instruction, simulator practice and at-sea exercises. Core elements include bridge and deck procedures, boarding operations and coordinated incident management. This will always be under realistic and demanding conditions.
Ready for Sea
The foundation stage where the crew becomes familiar with their vessel and masters essential safety procedures in a total ship context. Focus areas include bridge and deck organization, watchkeeping, fire-fighting, damage control and survival at sea. We will create a confident and cohesive team ready to sail safely.

Train-the-Trainer

Building Sustainable Training Capacity Within an Organisation
Training Methodology: Train – Coach – Monitor
We apply a phased training approach that matches the development of people and crews. Moving from instruction to guided practice and finally independent execution.
This programme is especially relevant for Navies / Coast Guard’s seeking to establish or strengthen their own Training Organisation. Trainees in this track are not only taught what to train, but also how to train. This is with a clear focus on planning, execution, evaluation and the broader role of a training staff.
We are convinced of true operational readiness only being sustainable when the knowledge and skills acquired during training can be passed on within the organisation. That’s why we offer a dedicated Train-the-Trainer programme, designed to empower future instructors to take ownership of their Navy’s / Coast Guard’s ongoing readiness training.
